My morning's newspaper has an article entitled "Pilot killed as replica WWII plane crashes". It says that Wiilard Mincey was killed in South Carolina on Sunday while flying his P-58(??????) replica. I found this similar article in Google.

I looked at the US Civil Register and Willard Mincey is listed as owning a RV-3.

Can anyone provide more details of this WWII replica "P-58" accident?

Lots of news articles can be found by doing a Yahoo! News search but none of them clarify what a "P-58" is.

This morning's FAA accident run says a Midget Mustang
N416A crashed in on 4/17 in Mullins, SC.

Perhaps it was painted up in WW-II Mustang colors which
led the press to believe it was a "replica WW-II plane".

Quite a shock, as the press is usually so accurate on the
details of these airplane crashes.... :shock:

?????? :?: The same photo is shown next to each aircraft accident story. I think the photos are generic, like when you see the Cessna picture on the news when a 747 crashes.

P-58 is a really big P-38 w/ turrets, etc. Only one was built. Google P-58 Chain Lightning.

Thks Wolverine, now I remember.

I would be greatly surprised if the crashed WW.2 replica would have look alike.
