Does the FAA know something I don't? But, IIRC, wasn't there a nosewheel conversion for the T-6 back in the 50s?

Wow! The Feds are so informative! I've never heard of a T-6 having it's nosegear collapse when it left the runway before!

You would think they could at least make note of whether it was the right or left nosegear which collapsed.

That doesn't surprise me at all. These initial reports almost always have wrong information in them, particularly when warbirds are involved. Remember most FSDO's who file these reports know absolutely nothing about warbirds. They wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a P-51 and a T-6. They probably know Cessna's and Pipers relatively well, but not much else.

BTW, the "Bacon Super 6" nosewheel T-6 still survives, but I don't believe it has flown in many decades. I seem to recall that it was somewhere out in Southern California - Van Nuys perhaps? Obviously that wasn't the plane in this case.

C'mon...give them break. They couldn't see a nose gear so it must have collapsed! Pretty straight forward to me.
