Warbird Information Exchange

I just saw a documentary on PBS tonight (in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area). I had never seen it before and was astonished that the whole focus of the documentary is the importance of keeping the remaining airworthy B-17s in the skies for as long as possible. I'd never really seen a documentary on public television take such a strong position that flyable warbirds are more important than static examples in museums. It was really a refreshing change to see them pull no punches and explain why a flying B-17 is more important than a static one. Great stuff...

At the end of the show, they did a roll call of all the airworthy B-17s remaining (even going so far as to list Boeing Bee but say "airworthy, but no longer flown"). The doc appears to have mostly been shot a couple years ago (Robert Morgan appears in it briefly) and Liberty Belle doesn't appear in the roll call. But still, if you get a chance to see it, don't miss it.

For those in the Twin Cities area, it will be repeated again around 2am or 3am. Check your listings. (Note: My apologies for not posting a notice sooner, but I didn't even know it was on until it had started and was then too engrossed to run to the computer to post a notice.)

I too was unable to pull myself away from the program to post a note about it. It was certainly refreshing to see a documentary stressing the importance of keeping the aircraft flying. The roll call of the flying B-17s at the end got me thinking just how lucky we are here in Minnesota. Over the years I have seen 7 of the flyable B-17s while traveling no farther than 120 miles from home.
