I remember reading that when the American ferry pilots took off and formed up to deliver the last Corsairs from Honduras to the USA they looked down and saw that all traffic in the city had come to a halt and people were looking skyward wondering if there was a war or a revolution on.

I guess the ferry pilots were not aware that the honduran people loved to see their Corsairs in the air, even though there were fighter jets already in service. The Corsairs took to the sky for parades and festivities throughout the year. The thought of a war or revolution was merely the interpretation the pilot gave to the event.

we tried to get that exact plane back as well but they kept it for dedication to the pilot from the soccer war
