I find this Memorial Day weekend a fitting time to show these photos. My heart goes out to all troops who gave up their life in combat or peacetime. I lost friends who survived wartime flying but got killed in peacetime flying. Thanks for serving.

I worked and flew on rescue helicopters in the USAF. It's the best mission there is. To save another troop.

Most of these photos are true rescue machines and others would be in a minute if called upon. Photos taken between 1977 - 1994. I could be wrong on some of the designations. I've seen them changed overnight.

Pretty sad. Not one reply acknowledging Memorial Day. And I thought this warbird sight would get at least a few replies. Sad.

Don't get down Larry. I said my thanks on another forum and was able to say thanks to 3 vets Monday. :) There were a few threads here about it but they got pushed off onto another page.

Not at all Larry. Just trying to throw a post in before the boss comes back. Let me thank you and every veteran / enlisted person that has answered the call to protect our beloved country. Truly the task of medical evac is a crucial job that has saved countless lives. With your post there are alot of great shots in there. Thanks for those. I see that the picture with the UH-60A was taken at Sikorsky Airport. Pretty cool. I was just walking all over that Tarmac all weekend. I was hoping to meet you there Larry. Another time.

Well, I for one was out of town, away from the computer. Plenty of folks recognize the veterans' service.

Thank you, Larry and your colleagues for your service. I like your caption to the first photograph.
In my opinion, you guys had to have nerves of steel to hover in a helicopter while bad guys in the jungle were shooting and trying to kill you. Great vintage photos.

I spent the day hanging at the pool, and cooking out with my family including my father(a Vietnam vet). He told me, "This right here is what soldiers fight to protect."

I lost a friend in Vietnam in 1968 flying Med-Evac missions, called Dust-off". He flew time and time again, more than 800 sorties, and rescued over 1600 people. In the process, he was awarded the Silver Star, 5 DFC's, and numerous Air Medals.
