Pensacola gets a Prowler and Hint of Lake Michigan Corsair

Nice addition to the museum and the closing sentence confirms what another thread had talked about regarding the corsair.

I wonder what kind of "restoration" work they do on an aircraft coming off of active duty? Not sure how much more "Real Life" you can make it look. :lol:

Perhaps they mean "Preservation" / De-Mil for museum display.

Anyone have any inside news on the Corsair recovery?

Ensign Carl H. Johnson who crashed on 12 June 1943 off the USS Wolverine out on Lake Michigan.

He was flying a F4U-1 Corsair Bureau Number 02465.

Training on HI prior to boarding ship - Midair collision in Hellcats. The other pilot landed OK, Johnson was killed.

Have log book/photos but will have to wait until the Corsair is recovered!
