Vultee BT-15 canopy and ID Tag information

Mon Jul 05, 2010 1:37 am

I recently got the canopy and an ID tag off of a Vultee BT-15 . I want to find out the history of the aircraft. I know it can be traced off of this tag, but how do I do so? here are the numbers written on the tag.
serial no. AC41-10176
Order NO. W-535AC15569
Date Accepted 4-26-41

I can't get this forum to upload my pictures. Contact me and I can email you pictures of the tag. I'm not selling it, I just want to research it.

For USAAF and USAF aircraft retired prior to May 1953:

Mail your history card request to:

Smithsonian Institution
P.O. Box 37012
National Air and Space Museum
Archives Division, Rm 3100, MRC 322
Washington, DC
20013-7012

Or send your history card request by email.

Cut and pasted from here: http://www.nasm.si.edu/research/arch/co ... istory.cfm

Be aware that there is a big records move planned for August and significant amounts of material will not be available for something on the order of two months while the move is completed. I don't know the turn-around time for the cards coming from NASM, but when we got them from Maxwell ARB, it was about 6 weeks.

Good luck and happy hunting.
