The aircraft was airworthy again in March 2012, a Bolivian aviation fan had the possibility of flying on it and has a video -now a historic register of this Commando:

This tragic event may not feel as sad as some other losses we've incurred in recent memory, (geography has something to do with it I think) but this one still stings for me nonetheless. I mean, I cant begin to say I know most of the guys or gals out there in the Warbird Community, in general! But this forum sure is a start. Therefore I can only begin to express what I can from my seat a world away. That being said I'm quite saddened by the loss of life onboard. The machine never comes close to the man; or in this case men. (The C-46 happens to be one of my personal favorite "Big Props")
I'm all in favor of these majestic aircraft continuing work in their original profession; but it's always terrible to see this happen. Especially when we're getting into the single digits. Right? There's gotta be like only 8 to 9 C-46's still being used as transports worldwide. DC-3s / C-47s a bit more but; PBY's have all but been retired!
So really in the end all I have to say is; I send my condolences and thoughts to the families and friends to the lost.
