Okay, I was a Soviet intel analyst for the DoD for some time, so naming these for me is like going to a Ford lot and reading off the types of cars. But let's see how many of you get these correct.
First off, where were these taken?
Then, let's start with something simple, and remember the names of these photos might be misleading:

bottom line..... most russian prototypes, planes, choppers, etc are fugly. french too. & going back to ww 2. they both had a few beauties, but the majority of both nations birds had butt ugly lines.

Yeah yeah yeah, I know, "they don't make 'em like they used to."
Personally, I like the utilitarian look of Soviet-block aircraft. I find the same bolted steel and raw power feel look to many of them I find in such WW2 craft as the Liberator or Privateer, the C-119, and such boxy craft as that.
Hey, my first love is US WW2 aircraft, make no mistake. But poo-poo'ing these birds is plain wrong. Ever actually see a MIL-24 ("Hind") helicopter doing a high-speed pass? Man, it's right up there with watching a B-25 hammer by at full throttle, really it is. It's about as loud, too! Sure, an SU-37 isn't a P-51, but so what? They all deserve note. And considering how few will likely survive in the future, they should be documented now!


My brother (who was never a pilot) took these at Monino recently when he was there, courtesy of the USAF. I find it funny that I'm the one in my family who knows Russian-block aircraft and he gets to see these. I don't think he knew what half of them were, if that. And the funniest thing is that he's big into armor, and I became an Army officer in a mech unit!
