anyone catch the show tonight? it was called "war birds of europe" ... it had veterans and current pilots with both new and old footage. interviews, current flying of airshows.... they actually let you hear some of the planes fly and dont have any talking in some of the scenes(even if they were short, at least they were their).

from the website: War Birds of Europe is an indepth documentary looking at the most significant military aircraft of WWII through the use of actual surviving aircraft and some historical footage to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

Watched it and was impressed. I thought that their selection of Patrick Stewart as the narrator was excellent, especially for the soft tone in which he delivered the presentation. At times, his narration was so soft, I didn't even notice it, it simply flowed into the surrounding images being displayed and their soundtrack, but I still noticed I'd heard what he'd said. What great work.

I was very impressed as well. Not only for the show, but that the folks at Military Channel remembered yesterday was the 70th anniversary of the BoB. But the show was very well done. The footage taken was spectacular, and is a nice change from the same old newsreel footage thats usually used. It looked like it was taken at a very recent Duxford show and was of hi quality, including cockpit shots, over the shoulder shots, tail chases etc...

I loved the way they blended it all in seemlessly with the narrative and the vets interviews. This is a must see for anyone who missed it and I hope its on again for the DVD recorder, it's a keeper.

I too thoroughly enjoyed the show - though would have completely missed it if it weren't for the anouncement here - thank you, JBrawner! It was amazing to me, how jam-packed it was with footage clearly from the hands of the folks at FlyingMachinesTV - excellent stuff! And the editing was superb - nothing like the other historic-aviation themed shows I have seen on Military Channel lately. Some of the footage included was clearly shot as recently as this year, most all of it from various Duxford air shows throughout recent years, while other, older clips, even included some very impressive shots of Ray Hanna-low passes in the Breitling Fighter's P-40 and Spitfire, that I hadn't seen before, as well as some old air-to-air with the CAF CASA/He-111. I look forward to catching it again when it's on!

I noticed that on-screen, the show was sub-titled "The Fighters", so here's hoping for a "Warbirds of Europe: The Bombers", as well.

Sadly next week on Wednesday night at 9pm it is a repeat of Raising the Kursk...

I DVR'ed it and just got finished watching the show for the 2nd time. Wow, those ultra low passes between the tree lines were spectacular! I haven't seen anything like that since the B-17 low pass on 12 o'Clock High. I really put the power and speed of those machines into perspective.

I was really jazzed to see excellent modern footage of so many types, especially the "unobtanium" types like the Fw-190 and He-111. A couple of the close-up barrel roll photo passes by the Spit and Mustang were almost dizzying.

I really liked the Spit with the ol' British "stiff upper lip"! I'm guessing that was the model upgraded for desert conditions?
