I thought I heard that the Canadian Harvard Association and the the WWI aircraft of the Great War Flying Museum were also attending?

It's shaping up to be a very interesting show this weekend.

And today the 109 the Hurricane and the Spitfire went
up for some formation work and where was my camera?
At home by the computer.
Seriously though iot should be a great show. The Harvards arrived today as well as a large contingent of military vehicles
Tomorow the veterns are saluted and any vet with proper id gets in free
Remeber it is THANKS to them we live the way we do

My father-in-law and I had a great time at the show today. Friday is a great day to go for the photography since the crowds were light.

I got to see a Bf-109 fly for the first time in my life (very cool), and I had seen that Hurricane in California once before, but this is the first time I saw it flying. Good-day all-in-all.

The Spit didn't fly. He started up and taxied out with the 109 and Hurri, but when the others took off he taxied by to his parking spot and shut down. Soon after the spinner was removed and it looked like they were starting to dissassemble the prop assembly. I am not an expert here, so treat my discription with a grain of salt. The spinner was definitely removed with attention being given to the prop assembly.

So what did I think of the show? It is a good forum. The stupidly strict Canadian rules for airshows made access to the planes while static impossible (Geneseo can't be beat for their parked aircraft access). I think there is very good potential for even better Russell shows, and the one today was certainly a very good start.

Mike, you can have access to the planes before the show in Canada, but not while they run around.

I think it's not a bad thing, I've seen my share of close calls between propellers and persons...

The Spit flew later in the day at about 1730 with John Romain
at the controls
Late arrivals were the Colt and some L birds as the was weather between
Niagara and Genesceo
There is also a chance to get Autographs from the pilots today and tomorrow. a air cadet parade and awards
The other interesting thing that happened was that the aircraft of
The Russell group Recieved a native americain blessing or smudging
as did Ed and his wife.

I most certainly did have a good time. I had my father-in-law with me, so I didn't stick around to chat with crew as the announcer was inviting people to. I also needed to get to Tillsonburg by late afternoon anyway.

That didn't seem to be the case at Niagra, but I may have arrived too late (11 AM arrival).

It would however be nice if the planes could taxy along the viewing line before heading off to the run way to give the crowd a good look. It seemed that the taxy routine was to immediately head away from the crowd to the runway. It wasn't a problem getting decent shots with the thin crowd on Friday and a long lens, but Saturday may have been more difficult.

Anyway it is a good show. I would return to see another one.

I didn't realize you were from Fort Erie! We you at the show on Friday? Were you the gent Eric Dumigan was taking to after the main flying display was over?

That is good to hear, I was a little worried. But it did taxy back rather than be towed, so it must not have been too serious.

If anyone is going back to the show on Sunday, could you do me a favour....

I forgot to note the registration on the aerobatic Sukhoi. Also I didn't get the reg on one of the GWFM aircraft. Not the SE-5s, or the Nieuport, but the other one (please forgive my ignorance, WWI stuff is not my specialty).

If anyone has these registrations please let me know.

Hi Mike et al--

Went to Mr R's airshow today; I could carp and quibble about one thing or another, but the prime fact is that today for the first time in thirty years of airshows I saw (and heard) a Messerschmitt 109E in the air...Thrice, no less! So my 2005 season, whatever else happens, is now officially MADE. :D

I can echo Mike's comment about the aircraft being "off limits", but I'd add that that is very much a two-way street: it means there's at least the faint hope of getting pix of them without a crowd in front and/or a forest of legs behind! One does need a long lens though. It would, indeed, be nice if there were space for the fighters to taxi in review as at Gennie. Next year, perhaps...there were frequent references to Friendly Foes Above The Falls being the "inaugural" event. I certainly hope that proves to be the case. Any show featuring a vic-three of Bf109E, Spit IX and Hurricane IIB is worth more than one go-round in my opinion!

Re the registrations on the Su26M and the Sopwith Strutter (assuming you don't mean the old-stalwart Fokker D.VII), I got a shot of the Sukhoi that should show the reg'n (it was N308NL or something like that IIRC); the Strutter, out of GWFM at Brampton along with the SE5as et al, is registered C-FSOP. (The D.VII is C-GWWI.)
