Warbird Information Exchange

We have C-47B-1 43-16369 and I have the Air Force record sheet on it, it shows that it went to europe to 9th AF in Aug 0f 1944 I understand that it may have been in the 436th TCG. I would like to find out which TCS it was in and if there might be any photos of it. If anyone can visit Maxwell and maybe dig for details I would Greatly appreciate it.

Where specifically at Maxwell do you think there might be information on it?

I'm pretty sure the aircraft movement cards only cover movement within the continental US -- i.e. up to the point of embarkation for overseas. Upon return to US, the movement card usually picks up again. The time overseas is omitted and just appears as a gap in the records.

Records for overseas service are hit or miss. I think unit records may be with the USAF Museum, not Maxwell.

The best hope you would have at AFHRA would be if the serial number happened to show up in the Group or Squadron records. AFHRA does have the histories of most overseas units in the collection, but serials don't often show up unless the airplane was involved in something "special" that warranted noting by the unit historical officer. I chased a particular B-29 for a decade and finally stumbled onto her serial and nose art name in the 462nd Group history on my latest visit to Maxwell.
