The January 2011 Desktop Calendars and Wallpapers are now available from the Warbird Depot website (http://www.warbirddepot.com/desktop_calendars.asp), this month includes:

1. Comanche Fighters’ Lockheed P-38L Lightning “Thoughts of Midnite” being flown by Steve Hinton over Chino, CA. The aircraft holds the honor of flying the world’s last Lightning combat mission and is painted in the markings of Capt. Verl E. Jett, commander of the 431st FS, 475th FG.

2. Mark Watt flying North American P-51D Mustang “Geraldine” with Dennis Sanders in Cavalier Mustang “Lou IV”. Both Mustangs are finished in the markings of the 361st Fighter Group and owned by Chuck Greenhill, based in Kenosha, WI.

3. Jim Beasley flying his Supermarine Spitfire Mk. XVIII SM969 from Chester County G O Carlson Airport in Coatesville, PA. It is currently listed with Platinum Fighter Sales.

4. Bill Shepard flying the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association’s North American Harvard Mk.4 (20422, C-FRZW) over Toronto, Ontario during the 2010 Remembrance Day Flypast.

5. Jason Somes is seen flying the Commemorative Air Force, Southern California Wing’s, Grumman F8F-2 Bearcat on Veteran's Day 2010. The photo was taken over the Mojave Desert as part of a flight of three warbirds headed for Nellis Air Force Base for their airshow.

6. This DH.83 Fox Moth is owned by Stan and Gilly Smith and is seen flying in the Waihopai Valley area near Omaka in the very capable hands of Bruce Donnelly. The camera ship was a Fleet 16b flown by Graham Orphan.

7. Jim Terry taking off for an early morning photo shoot in the Greatest Generation Aircraft’s North American B-25J Mitchell “Pacific Prowler” at the 2007 Gathering of Mustangs and Legends in Columbus, OH. This B-25J was made famous as the camera ship for Tallmantz Aviation.

8. Vintage Aero Flying Museum’s Fokker Dr. I replica photographed during their annual flying day/airshow at the Platte Valley Airpark in Fort Lupton, Colorado. It is powered by a "flat" Lycoming IO-360 that develops 180 HP; the original Oberursel powerplant only produced 110 HP. The cylinders showing beneath the front cowl are actually there merely to lend a measure of authenticity to the appearance as the original planes had rotary engines.

9. Andy Smith flying Brad Buchanan's 1975 Varga 2150A Kachina over the hills of Sonoma, CA. Often mistaken as a Beech T-34 when wearing military paint schemes, the Varga is slightly smaller, and was not used by the U.S. military services.

10. One of Alaska Airlines’ many themed Boeing 737s (737-990 c/n 30018 N318AS) arriving at San Francisco International Airport during an October afternoon. This one is named the "Spirit of Disneyland II".

11. Lt. Col Derek Routt departing EAA AirVenture 2010 in the USAF Thunderbird #7 General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon.

12. Russian Air Force Ilyushin IL-76MD (c/n 0093495858), RA-78818, belonging to the 224th Air Detachment of Military Transport Aviation arrived from Moscow via Shannon on Monday, 21 June 2010, as flight number TTF9075. It is seen on short final for runway 06L at Toronto’s Lester B. Pearson International Airport.
