Warbird Information Exchange

Hi folks;

I am working on planning a trip to Italy this late Fall and would like as much information as possible on museums and collections; both public and private, of aircraft (civil and warbird) and armor (WWII thru modern) that can be found in the country and islands off its coast.

You MUST get to Vigna di Valle, the Italian AF Museum collection to the North of Rome. A real pain to get to by public transport, but believe me, it's worth it for the line of 4 gorgeous blood-red Schneider Trophy racers alone. And then there are all the other gems in the collection too......

I dropped him a mail a few days ago but it remained unanswered to date.

On the other hand, googling, I found a Canadian site advertising out of print Ogden's books at a reasonable price.

The benelux and the UK books are immediately sold out when published.

Ryan, if u let me know the exact days I might well take u there, I'm at home there, it's just a matter of finding a hole in my duties

Yhey have a site, in Italian, which gives opening times but not much information regarding the collection.

They recently added a Fiat CR.42

Ogden guides: Vol 9 includes Italy, I have a copy next to me as I type. I can confirm Willy's ISBN is correct. There's 41 locations listed in the Italian section. (Some have one aircraft - or only a few...)

It's an area, Ryan, you'd be wise to do lots of prep as the Italians can be a bit difficult about access and photography, compared to N America.

Does anyone in your group speak Italian? Even a tiny bit is worthwhile as it seperates you from the monolingual crowd.
