I have taken some time off from website development to concentrate on updates to locations in the United States. I am going alphabetically, then when I am done I will be working on Canada, Europe, Australia, etc. Anyway... as you may have guessed I have started my review with Alabama. To find a listing of the Alabama locations go to...
Aerial Visuals Locator Search - Alabama For those of you not familiar with the Locator, it lists locations where you can view or walk up to displayed aircraft. Many of these are museums, planes in parks and roadside warbirds. Some are private collections. Others are hulks and other significant artifacts. I have recently created a new feature where the aircraft which are accessible to the public or in view from a public location are kept in the default listing, but those not accessible (planes displayed on bases for example) are moved into a separate category. These other locations can be included in the search results if you would like, but you need to set the "scope" selection appropriate in the search engine...
Aerial Visuals - Locator...and if you have not used the locator but are looking for locations to find aircraft while traveling, make sure you bookmark this page. I think you will find it useful.
Back to Alabama... If you are familiar with some of the locations in Alabama listed via the first link above, and know that none of the aircraft at a particular location are accessible or in view then please let me know so I can revise their status. Also, the location dossiers (descriptions of the individual locations contained within the locator) are as complete as I can make them for now. This includes creating airframe dossiers for the aircraft at those locations. If you have pictures of any aircraft displayed in Alabama then go to into the appropriate location dossier, follow the link to the airframe dossier for the plane you have pictures of and then click on the photo upload link and follow the instructions. If you can upload some shots I will be sure to post them here. We could turn this into an Alabama photo thread. In the mean time if you would like to see pictures others have posted (not just in Alabama), then go to the Gallery...
Aerial Visuals - Airframe Gallery ...and this page is updated regularly (daily, or more frequently) so be sure to check back.
You will find that the Locator doesn't know everytyhing. When there are doubts about certain locations questions are posted asking for help. There are a number of these requests for assistance in Alabama. For example...
Aerial Visuals - Location Dossier - Dothan, Alabama, United States - L-29 Are the L-29s at Dothan static or active?
There are a number of locations listed under Fort Rucker including the museum...
Aerial Visuals - Location Dossier - United States Army Aviation Museum - 100 airframes ...and other locations like this one...
Aerial Visuals - Location Dossier - United States Army Aviation Museum, Storage - 40 airframesAre the other locations accessible to the public? Is this an open base?
I could also use some help locating the Sanders collection in Troy...
Aerial Visuals - Location Dossier - Wiley Sanders Warbird Collection - 9 airframes If you can provide any help with these or other locations in Alabama you can post here, but I might miss them. The best way to get information to me is to click on any of the + links on the site. You will be taken to a form that you fill in, and the data will get to me for sure.
I look forward to any comments or suggestions you may have. I also look forward seeing any Alabama warbird photos you may upload.
Mike
