The Nakajima Kikka has been delivered to the restoration area at Udvar Hazy. See this link for a photo of it inside the new facility. www.nasm.si.edu/images/collections/medi ... ve%201.jpg

Awesome. I am hoping to get to Udvar Hazy next Sunday and see the new restoration area. 8) It looks like the public can look into the restoration hanger from the main museum cat-walk.

I was at Udvar-Hazy last weekend and access to the Restoration Hangar was still closed off.

Check with them before you go.

Thanks for the heads up Vagabond. Were you able to see into the new area at all?

Here's a quick video of the Kikka in the restoration hangar... The pics should be posted on this link by tomorrow afternoon.

TAdan -

I didn't even get close to the new area.
The walkway connection near the Kingfisher had the doors closed and the stairway up from the space hanger was roped off at the top.

Thanks for the update Vagabond, that is just what I needed to know. Well even if that area is still off limits I am sure I'll find something to look at while I'm there... :D

The Me-163 is back in one piece - she's displayed to the left of the entrance to the Space gallery - across from the Loon.

Have fun & safe travels!

Which is really annoying. I've been there recently, and there's no reason to have the new walkways closed off like they are. The walkways are finished and ready to go; planes are being moved in (the JRS1 fuselage is clearly visible if you lean over on the railings next to the barriers, as are the Helldiver wings).

Probably just waiting for a time when they can get their big donors in for a ribbon-cutting dog/pony show. In the meantime, people ARE leaning over the railings (especially the back one, near the aft end of the Enterprise) to get better views and there's a risk that someone's going to fall over or otherwise get hurt.

Are there any plans to get Flak Bait put together and away from the grubby hands of the tourists downtown?

The Horton-229 is at the UH restoration facility as well. You can see the wings in the background of one of the Sikorsky JRS pictures.

Actually, I think the wings and very top of the Horton.229 fuselage (maybe "center section" is a better word?) can be seen behind the Kikka in the photo that started off this thread.

Its great to see all these planes being moved to Udvar Hazy but dont look for any of them to be restored for many years due to bugdet cutbacks.
