Cool shots..but what's with the big N-numbers? Local regulation?

Crossing the ADIZ requires 12" numbers. That looks like a Caribbean destination.

I saw a show a couple weeks ago called "most extreme airports" featuring St. Martin. The beach bar posts the times of incoming flights on a surfboard. Also, a popular local game is "riding the fence," where people try to hang onto the perimeter fence while departing aircraft run up their engines. Aside from getting sandblasted and choking on kerosene fumes, many end up getting blown across the road onto the beach. Yeah...sounds like "fun."

Unfortunately the last hurricane (natural not Hawker) obliterated the beach. Now you just get blown onto rocks, and no more young ladies en deshabille  .

I had been waiting for photos of this to show up, thank you for posting them! These of course are the warbirds of the "Texas Flying Legends Museum" (formerly "Fighter Hanger 1"): http://flyingfreedom.us/

As I understand it, the B-25 was flown by Doug Rozendall and Henry Reichert, the P-51D was flown by Gene Soucy, The P-40K was flown by Warren Pietsch, and the Corsair was flown by Bob Odegaard. Quite the epic trip over water I hear!! I hope the guys all had a good time with their wives/families down there.

People used to do that at the North end of VNY after the airshows. When the B52 spooled em up the spectators would get blown across the RR tracks into the sod farm....

Then the Woodland Hills HOA would go nuclear when said BUFF thundered over their heads. Sometimes the airshow departures were as entertaining as the airshow itself! You could almost see the phone lines start to glow after the '52 or any other heavy left

Wow, looks like at least 600 miles over open water, unless Cuba was on their list of stops. Certainly some pucker factor for the pilots of the single engine planes! Here's hoping that's a newly installed smoke system on the FG-1D!

Its shocking to see familiar US warbirds passing over that famous beach. Wish I could have been there. 8)
