Corsairs on Outside Display

Just thinking about it now, How many Corsairs (F4U varieties for all you wise guys who try and post Corsair II's) are on outside display still? I know this one is out in Michigan still: http://www.warbirdregistry.org/corsairregistry/fg1-92085.html And apparently there is one in South Korea in a Korean War museum? Then there is the -5 at the Flying Leathernecks museum: http://www.warbirdregistry.org/corsairregistry/f4u-122189.html Any more I missed?

I'm not sure, but I think Col. Soto's Corsair is still on outside display in Honduras.

FYI, The one at the Leathernecks Museum does have a roof over it to keep the rain off but its still basically outside.

So by my count we have four known Corsairs still outside:

FG-1D Selfridge AFB
F4U-4 South Korea War Museum
F4U-5NL Flying Leathernecks Museum CA
F4U-5 Honduras

Not sure if the US Navy still has the disassembled F4U-1 stored outside, or their disassembled F4U-7 in San Diego for that matter. The most recent photos I've seen of both planes showed them in that configuration though.

The Honduran Corsair is better protected now, against the elements. This photo dates back to 2004, when the shelter was not yet finished.

i hope they all get inside soon to get some tlc. On soto's plane, what is that underneath on one of the hard points? I see a drop tank and it looks like a jet engine or something.

Sorry for reviving the dead, but the -5NL at the Flying Leathernecks Museum is now indoors, but it may never come back out again. I was there over the weekend, and didn't see it outside. I asked about it, and was told they found a broken wing spar during an inspection a while back, and it's now sitting in a hangar "in pieces". The gentleman I talked to said it gets moved around a lot for ceremonies on the base, and that coupled with the years of exposure to the elements must have finally done it in. From what they were saying, unless someone wants to make the commitment to replacing the spar, it could sit in storage indefinitely

The Selfridge Corsair is currently disassembled inside undergoing long term restoration.
I have many current pictures of it if anyone wants to host them on a web site.

That is a bummer about the aircraft at the Flying Leatherneck Museum!! Good news on the San Diego Aerospace Museum's -7 is that it was restored 5-6 years ago and is on display...indoors! It is painted up as Jerry Coleman's aircraft. I believe it was restored as an AU1 since that is what he flew during his time in Korea. Jerry Coleman played and worked for the New York Yankee after WWII. He took a leave of absence from baseball to serve during the Korean War. He was the long time announcer for the Padres and I believe he played for the Padres briefly. He flew SBD's during WWII.
