Last I heard the aircraft were up for reassignment as the wing no longer had funds to keep either the Bamboo Bomber or the O-2. I'm not sure if the wing even exists anymore. Maybe a CAF member will be able to shed some more light on the situation and let us know what happened to the aircraft.

Yep, I heard they went under. Can't confirm it, but I heard that scuttlebutt. Great Lakes Wing went under too. I know that is a fact.
What a shame.
How many CAF wings have gone south? Do they publish that info in the Dispatch?

Seems to be a trend, difficulty in getting money as the WWII era people pass on, and the younger ones either don't care about the planes, or don't have deep enough pockets yet. Creative fund raising is the only thing that can keep the planes, and organizations, going. The ride-for-hire program has been a BIG help in raising funds, for the planes that can carry passengers, but now the FAA has tightened the requirements for that program, making it more difficult to raise funds that was as well.

Bamboo Bomber went back to the CAF for re-assignment. The Dayton Wing hosted P-51 Red Nose once before they folded the next year.

Nice bunch of people...I think they took on too much when they tried to also restore an Antonov AN-2...

The O-2 is in the hangar at Midland waiting for re-assignment and an overhaul on both engines.

Well that is a shame. They did such a great job recovering that plane. The last I heard they were recovering that Anatov, guess maybe that was a bit more than they thought.
They had soooo many great pictures on their website of the whole recovering process. They were priceless for an RC modeler like me that is building a T-50.

UC, this website might be a good starting point for your research if you haven't seen it yet:

http://www.angelfire.com/mi2/bobcat/

You can always try writing or emailing the club. Maybe they'll be able to supply you with the research you need or at least point you in the right direction. Good luck with your project!

The CAF website stills shows the Great Lakes Wing as being active.

With no airplanes and no members, not sure how it is possible.

The Great Lakes Wing did not request Wing dues from us former members this year. We did not hold elections either.

Last news letter posted on line is June 2010.
