A p-51 has been excavated in Pathum Than, 50 km nrth of Bangkok. It will go on display in "a museum". I presume this will be the Thai AF museum in Bangkok. They think it crashed in 1945 during the Japanese occupation. Not other info, sorry. Link to video below :)

Very cool. Wonder how much of it is left beyond the prop and motor?

This is supposed to be Captain Albert Abraham (#O-442349) Aircraft according to one report. If so it is probably P-51D 44-15302 which was lost on 9th April 1945 - MACR 13788

Lost Location: 10 Miles W Of Don Maung Af
Point Of Departure: Cox's Bazar, India

Captain Albert Abraham (#O-442349) was captured alive, and was returned to U S military control after liberation from Bangkok Alien Internment POW Camp...

Some sites have it down as "2FG" (Baugher Serials and Aviation Archaeology Web Sites) but his unit was actually the 2nd Fighter Squadron Commando, 2nd Air Commando Group, 10th Air Force

If anyone can pull of the MACR from Footnote I would love a copy!

the use of a giant excavator doesn't make good for the most delicate recovery effort!!

Holy cow! How did they find it down that deep? That last long shot with the excavator really gave the sense of the scale of the operation.

After slamming into what looks like a hillside of wet clay, I'd doubt there's much left that's useable after 65 years.
