There's some old memories! :D
Was that shot of Dan McCue's yak was taken from Bob Berringer's T-28 or Peatridge's?

I have a video (VHS) of a Wings of Eagles airshow that showed an aerobatic routine by Dan McQue in the Yak. Cool stuff.

I can identify Beverly, MA, Bedford, MA (Hanscom AFB) and I think Manchester, NH.

What is the time frame on that shot of the Huey on the pole with the Mig-15UTI in the background... I ask as that was the first Mig my Stepdad put together in Ocala, Fl back around 94-95... Last time I saw it - Dad and I went up to Boston to do an annual on it... Hate to see it's still sitting outside...

It's still there, still sitting outside at the Beverly Airport (Eastern Entrance), Beverly, Ma. Been sitting there for years, sorry to say.

i remember seeing that b-24 joe, b-17 memphis belle, b-25 and a tbm avenger at bradley field back in the early 90's. What ever happened to that b-24? Now, keep in mind that this is just a rumor or story i heard at the time when these planes came in. If i'm wrong, i'm very sorry for giving the wrong info but please let me know if this was true or not.

When the b-17 was going to leave or close to leaving some inspection team,( not sure the proper term for them,) wanted to do a inspection on the belle's engines. They found something wrong or not up to code. They grounded her until the proper maintenance could be done. So she sat in a hanger for a few months until they got the funds or maybe the parts to fly her back home. They did eventually and vowed never to return to bradley field. And since then i have never seen them again. The collings foundation makes stops sometimes still. Does anybody remember this?

Frank,

Joe is with Kermit Weeks down in Polk City Florida. She hasn't flown in 10 to 15 years if Im not mistaken. Boy do I wish he (or if not him some other group) would operate that bird. The world needs more than just 2 Liberators in the air!

Kalamazoo Kid,

I have that exact video of the Wings of Eagles Airshow! 91 I think. Did Dan call his Yak "The Eagle and the Bear" or the act he performed in it?

And I remember that last shot well with Fuddy Duddy, Movie Memphis Belle, Yankee Lady, and Miss Hap up at Elmira. Was that 99 or 2000? Or 2001? Cant remember but I do remember the weather being less than stellar. Miss those shows but not as much as what Geneseo used to be.

hi Chris,
i believe that b-24 can still fly correct? And the story about the FAA was true about the belle. My father was working at bradley at that time and always made time to pass into the b-17's temporary home. He got talking to their ground crew in which one of them said, " We will NEVER come to this place again." True to his words they never came back.

What I was told from one of the guys down at FoF was that to become a regular airshow / bomber tour flyer she would need a total disassembly, restoration and refurbishment. But apparently everything needed for a B-24 is there. EVERYTHING. Now if something like a hurricane was approaching and they wanted to fly as many of the planes out of there as possible, the 24 could be made ferriable rather quickly to get her from point A to B. Its common knowledge Tallichet only put what was absolutely required to keep his planes flying. (Sometimes not even doing that!) Case in point, Tallichet brought Joe to Geneseo one year but never actually flew in and landed it there. Apparently he based it out of Rochester? Bativia? and only did fly overs because it had timed out engines and he didn't want to burn them out trying to unstick himself from the grass at Geneseo. That and apparently its not recommended to operate a 24 off a grass strip with that nose wheel but the CF didn't seem to have any trouble when they brought All American in there.

I remember a story of the FAA inspector questioning the patch panels on the sides of the cockpit, and why they were there.
They are access panels to the control cables, not patches. The group made the mistake of setting up on the ramp in front of the FSDO.
