I hadn't seen any shots of the Friedkin A-36 since it came out of the paintshop. Very nice indeed! :D

Nice paint job. Markings are from 86FBG, 527FBS, Italy. Aircraft had a total of 228 missions prior to being shot down on
5-9-44.

Looks like nice work.

Question about the mission tallies as originally applied during WWII. Obviously when the bird has only a few missions you don't know it's going to be a high-mission aircraft so it's not likely you would set up the tallies to snake down the fuselage from the outset. So would the tallies, or at least most of them, all have been painted at the same time, relatively late in the plane's career? Thoughts? Speculations?

Also am I right in assuming the tallies are port side only?

What if the first mission markers were the straight rows below the pilots windshield and, as missions were logged, they worked forward - somewhat straight, but up and over the exhausts and as they eventually ran out of nose, decided to continue them aft? Pure guess.
