I know that unlike our own NZ forces, some of the US forces such as the US Navy used coloured film stock for their official photos. And I have seen some amazing photos from WWII around the internet taken with Kodachrome coloured slides. they are sharp and vivid and amazing.
So I am wondering did anyone or any unit take such crisp, vivid coloured photos or slides at some of the American and New Zealand Pacific bases in WWII?
I'm interested in coloured photos of:
Pallikulo, Espirito Santo
Henderson Field, Guadalcanal
Ondonga, New Georgia
Munda, New Georgia
Piva, Bougainville
Torokina, Bougainville
Los Negros
Either taken from the air or the ground, are there any sharp, vivid coloured photos from WWII please?

You might consider the US magazine National Geographic. As a kid we had dozens of war time issues that had some great color photography from all theaters. I would think some of those would be available on line. Don't know whether the specific bases you mentioned would be seen.

Thanks for that lead John. I'll see what I can find online.

I have a set of around 125 original color slides of pacific airfields taken by a engineering officer
in 1943-44 on a tour of various airfields in the SW and central Pacific for a offical report on airfield construction.
Both ground shots and aerials taken from a A-24. Was planning on putting them up for auction........................
In some of the shots of Guadalcanal you can clearly see NZ P-40s and PV-1s.

Any identifiable B-17s on the ground in these slides, Jack?

Jack, I'd love to see those Guadalcanal photos, especially those with the RNZAF aircrfat in. Wartime photos of the RNZAF in colour ar like hens' teeth to find. Thanks.

Many thanks Jack, these are really superb. I appreciate your sharing them very much.
I remember now that you had posted that one of Fighter 2 at Guadalcanal previously some while back, with the kiwi Warhawks and Ventura dump in the foreground. It's a great shot. The others are really interesting to see too.
