This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Howdy All
Was recently listening to Warbird Radio interview with Tom Reilly
Towards the end of Interview, Tom mentioned that a friend of his is currently up in Greenland recovering P-38s and B-17
Anyone know anything further on this ?

If I understand that correctly they have not located one yet but if all goes well hope to have it out by September?
Seems a tad optimistic.

There's enough info out there so locating should be easy....plus an airborne sensor should aid in covering some ice. I'm thinking melting, bringing it to the surface and off the ice cap is another story.

Thanks for all the info
I suppose the big question depends on how much he is willing to spend $$$$$$$$$ and luck !
When you look at it, its been done before by others so why cant it be done again
I really do hope they pull it off

I read that thread. One comment on it. As I recall from last September's Duck Hunt, I'm thinking we melted a small hole (~10") down to the 100' - 115' range and it took us about an hour. If you have the right equipment, you can bore down at a fair pace.
