Mission to Berlin book by Robert F Dorr

Robert F Dorr author of "H-e-l-l Hawks", "Air Force One" and others has a new book out called "Mission to Berlin" check www.sungazette.net/articles/2011/07/28/ ... s/fe6w.txt It looks like an interesting read. Normally I'd be interested since my cousin Dallas was a B-24 pilot KIA by FW's in March 1944 but
he uses facebook has a all out balls to the wall marketing tool and it drives me mad getting flooded
with pitches to buy my book X1000

But, I just say NYET!

It is a tremendous book . I recommend it heartily !

I'm reading Munster: The Way it Was by Ian Hawkins right now. This book says that the bombing of Munster on 10-10-43 was our (U.S.) first time to intentionally bomb German civilians. The MPI was the Munster Cathedral in the center of town.

So, I have to question the above quote's veracity.

Or am I missing something?

The book does sound interesting, however.

Agreed! Love the Hellhawks book, but the constant "buy my book" blitz gets very old very fast...

Let's see if I got this right. Normally, you would be interested. But because I'm using Facebook to try to get you to learn about it, you're not interested? Okay. I think I got that.

I have never offered to sell anything on Facebook or in this forum. I am the author of "MISSION TO BERLIN," about B-17 Flying Fortress crews in combat in World War II, which just received a Ralston Institute prize for non-fiction. Writing about military aviation history has taught me a lot, brought me many friends, and enabled me to reach out with the stores of those who fly and fight. I plead guilty to using Facebook to make "MISSION TO BERLIN" known, often to people who would not know about it otherwise. At the same time, I welcome the implied recommendation for a course correction. I'll do my best to take the criticism of my use of Facebook as a positive learning experience and get something out of it. I do want to express my gratitude to everyone who helped me to write "MISSION TO BERLIN" and who has encouraged my writing about military history.

Pat and Bob;
I'm half way through "Mission to Berlin" and I'm really enjoying! (Thanks Pat!!!) I especially like all the little details about the mission prep and what various crewmen were thinking and going through at the time.

This book by the way is spectacular.

It really gets into the details of day to day life of bomber crews. Not just on missions, but what they would do from dawn to dusk. For those of us, whos fathers were in the service and we always wondered what 'dad' did when not over the target.., this has it.

It is really well written. Historically accurate and Mr. Dorr is one heck of a great man.

His next book, "Mission to Japan" is about B-29's (duh) and I can not wait for it to hit the shelves.

Robert Dorr's latest book "Mission to Tokyo" is now out. I just ordered a signed copy of the book and of course I am looking forward to reading it.

It's a very good read and Pat I thank you for turning me on to it, it's on the shelf right next to my 48 year old copy of Jablonskis B-17 book, I consider it the magnifying glass of all the 8th A.F. stuff I've read over the decades.
I'd strongly recommend it-

I own "He11 Hawks" and "Mission to Berlin" and have ordered "Mission to Tokyo".
There are 3 books in my collection that I intend to retain forever: "B-17 Fortress at War" (1977) by Roger A. Freeman, "Flying Fortress" (1965) by Edward Jablonski, and "He11 Hawks". My copy of "He11 Hawks" contains on page 151, right below one of your paragraphs about Frank "Lucky" Luckman, a personal note from him. Unfortunately, my friend Frank Luckman passed away this year.

BTW, please continue to use Facebook to keep readers like myself informed as to new books you have written.
