This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Hi everyone,
I just wanted everyone to know that up at the Asheville Regional Airport there is hanger and tie-down space available. If you need to get your aircraft out of the way of Irene. We should only get rain up here. If you are interested in coming up please call the FBO (Landmark Aviation) talk to Marty 1-828-687-7110

That's very thoughtful of you folks! Thanks in this day and age, for thinking about someone other than yourselves

Can the folks at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach get all their aircraft inside? How about the museums in North Carolina ie: the Carolinas Aviation Museum, the North Carolina Aviation Museum, the Western North Carolina Air Museum. Are they able to get all/most of their collection out of the path of the storm?

I would imagine that battleship North Carolina in Wilmington is taking a beating right about now. Hopefully the ship and everyone there in North Carolina will make it thru this storm ok.

I talked with Jon at MAM today and I think they have everything inside...especially our girl "Chuckie"

What is making me sick to my stomach is that Irene's heading straight for Wilmington. On the deck of the "North Carolina" is an original, irreplaceable, Vought OS2U Kingfisher. I think there are only a handful of these in existence. (3 maybe)

Whoa, thats not good. Any chance then might have secured it somewhere else before the storm hit?

I checked MAM's webcams and I don't see Chuckie. I hope she's ok.....
http://www.militaryaviationmuseum.org/webcamsI may be up late tonight watching thier webcams. I hate to second guess those guys, but I can't help but wonder if it would have been better to fly everything they could out of the path of the storm. Look at how many airplanes LSFM saved by doing that.

Having lived in Va Beach all my life I am hoping somehow that the museum is spared damage. The wind will be bad enough but they are very close to Back Bay and of course the ocean and I think the bigger worry will be flooding.
My L 4 is safe or so I hope hangared about 30 miles from the coast.
This is going to be the worst storm we have had in many years. Isabel really hit us hard in 03 and this one has the makings to be even worse.
Best of luck to all in the path.
Here is a pic I took in the L 4 over flying the museum and another taken close by. You can see there is very little elevation and the entire area is surrounded by water with the beach being only a couple miles away.

I just got a response to a post I put on thier FB page and they said that she was tucked safely away. I hope they're right. I keep thinking of the pictures of 6 feet of water in LSFM's hangar.

For anyone who's not familiar with where MAM is look for the red teardrop icon with the "A".

Everybody focuses on the wind, you gotta keep an eye on the tidal rise. Folks also forget the surge level does not include the wave action on top of the surge.
Hoping for the best, after what I've seen, I'd have flown them out !
