Hello all,

Mikael Olrog of Preserved Axis Aircraft <http://www.preservedaxisaircraft.com/> has some photos of the NASM Lippisch DM-1. The crate containing the aircraft is now at the Baker facility at Udvar Hazy. Olrog managed to take some pictures of the glider through cracks in the crate. The photos suggest a very simple all-wood structure.

There are photos that show that the aircraft was drastically rebuilt in the US for wind tunnel testing, and it is uncertain whether it was returned to the original configuration or not. It will be very nteresting when this is pulled out into the light of day for the first time in 60 years.

I can't believe that something as fascinating as that is boxed up.

WIX plus Google can lead you to some amazing information

There is similar stuff on range of other planes on the site

I saw this over there on preservedaxisaircaft this weeked as well. Can't wait to see it pulled out into the light. I think the NASM would do better to pull some of the crated up jobs straight out into the open at Udvar Hazy as they did with the Ho229 center section. Let's face it, the people who make the trek out to UH are doing it becuase they really love airplanes, not becuase it's another museum on the mall to check off the list. In other words, you'll hear a lot less "why is that unrestored piece of cr*p out here" and a lot more "that is awesome, I never thought I'd ever in my life get a chance to see THAT."

Folloing the NASM blog though, you can tell there's some really interesting stuff going on on a variety of subjects.
