as soon as that do -17 hits the air the decomposition begins....... they need to do the same thing salvors did to the civil war early confederate submarine css hunley. it's in a huge salinity / acidity monitored water tank for preservation. the hunley can't be that much bigger than the do -17 albeit the wings. they need to plan ahead so air doesn't deteriorate the airframe, & get started on the tank now.

Amen...It would take to much to manufacture a holding tank.....I know however that my pockets aren't that deep though.

I'm kinda glad they intend to display the Pencil as-found rather than trying to restore it. After seeing the Betty on display at Planes of Fame in its as-found condition in a jungle diorama, I think that's a very gripping and tale-telling way to display these wrecks.

I suppose ideally preserve what is left of it as well as possible and use it without dissassembly as the basis for a replica? Like with all things in aviation, depends on money. Pretty neat aircraft, bit of a shame a representative of the type was not saved for posterity considering their relevance in history.
