Tri-state Warbird Museum P-40 down

My understanding is that the engine quit. Lost a landing gear and boogered up a wingtip.

Pilot is OK.

Great job by the pilot.

Appears minimal damage and he walked away!! :drinkers:

Paul is an excellent pilot. He tried to put it down at the airport there (i69, 3500 feet), but poor visibility from oil on the windscreen (and perhaps a less than ideal approach...I have no idea where he was when the motor quit) caused him to overshoot and come to grief on the road.

Hopefully the engine isn't wrecked. It was nearly mint when they put it in the plane.

Glad to see the plane ( and pilot) are OK,well you know what I mean.
I live in New Zealand, and a guy just a few blocks away used to own it.
He saved that one and another P40, from a scrapyard here, in about 1962.
He used to tell me great stories about it, and I did see it while he still owned it, its really great to see her done and flying, I don't think John, thought he would live to see the day , even though he had been pottering away on it for years.

Paul did a H E L L of a job getting her down in one piece.The winscreen was covered with oil which made it loads of fun for sure.The motor "COME UNFROMGETHERED" so its junk.I think one blade is bent from the looks of it in the pictures.The main thing will be the retract mechanism and the gear box in the wing.The links folded but im sure it didnt do it any good in the box area.The ram will alot of times poke up out of the top of the wing and that one looks good so it may not be that bad.Theres some more grey hairs for ya Pauly.
