Warbird Information Exchange

Since we're talking about LBG and similar cases, I wanted to raise this question.

I was recently on a tour of Mt. Etna in Sicily and the guide mentioned a WWII era crash on Mt. Etna that was found recently (let's say in the last thirty years or so). He said that the wreck had been in OK shape. He could not tell me when it was found, where it found, nor what type of aircraft it was, etc. Just that it had been found.

I've done some googling on the interwebz, but I haven't been able to find anything about this subject. Have you guys ever heard of this wreck or do you have any details?

IIRC Mt Etna was erupting during WWII, so I suppose that could have inhibited rescue/recovery efforts during that time.

I think you might be confusing Etna with Vesuvius. A cursory glance at the Wiki shows that Mt. Etna didn't have any major eruptions during the war: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Etna, while I'm sure I've seen pics of aircraft (B-25s?) in front of Vesuvius while it erupted in 1944.

Still...tons of looks and no info on the plane? This event (if it happened...) has escaped the WIX mind entirely?
