Warbird Information Exchange

I am interested in buying a video camera to shoot static aircraft. I would prefer something that is HD. But having no knowledge in videoagraphy I would like some feedback on what would be good to get. Nothing too expesive. But something that does the job and with some good quality film.

We have a Sony digital. Uses SD cards. It does great, is HD, and the files are easily manipulated. By definition I think HD cameras are all digital.

Can anyone shed any light on which HD cameras out there where you can set them up so they don't distort propellors? It seems like every camera does that bend-y illusion (something to do with shutter rates or something... )

Some of the slightly more expensive cameras that have shutter/apeture controls and digital adjustments can eliminate that problem, but you have to pay for that ability.

If the camera has the ability to go to a higher frame-rate, it will help a lot. It's an artifact of technology. Film would just blur it, whereas digital tries to digitally encode it. With the speed of the propeller and the frame rate on the sensor, it distorts the prop, or any other object moving quickly. Standard frame rate is 30 frames per second. If your camera can go higher, that would be better. The only problem with going to a higher frame rate is that you will use more memory capacity and hard drive space.
