Pilots of the 31st TFW flew 23,069 sorties since deploying to Vietnam in November 1966 and the time the picture was taken.

U.S. Navy flight deck crewmen perform a preflight check on a Douglas KA-3B Skywarrior (BuNo 147995) of U.S. Naval Reserve aerial refueling squadron VAK-208 Jockeys aboard the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) on 15 September 1985. The Douglas A-3B 147665 was converted to an KA-3B in June 1967, to an EKA-3B in July 1967, and back to an KA-3B in February 1976. The plane finally crashed into Pyramid Lake, Nevada (USA), during night low level mission in January 1987, killing the crew of 3.

A U.S. Navy Grumman AF-2W Guardian of anti-submarine squadron VS-931 on the deck of the light aircraft carrier USS Bataan (CVL-29), circa 1951. The squadron had been established as U.S. Naval Reserve composite squadron VC-931 in 1948. It was activated as VS-931 on 1 March 1951 and redesignated VS-20 on 4 February 1953. It was already disestablished again in 1957.

Notes: "The scout version of the Grumman FF-1 fighter, the SF-1 differed from its predecessor in reduced armament and an increased fuel capacity. Powered by a Wright R-1820-84, the SF-1 entered service in Spring 1934, and eventually served in six squadrons. Quickly outclassed by other designs, the SF-1s spent their remaining years in the hands of reserve pilots.

Ed Steinman (on left) beside a Douglas A-26 bomber in the Pacific Theater of Operations during the summer of 1945. While the exact location is unknown, the photograph was most likely taken on Okinawa. 1st Lt. Slayton was one of only two NASA astronauts to fly combat missions during World War II.
