My birthday is coming up and my thoughtful wife saw a GroupOn for this flight so we'll be there on the 7:00pm flight. Just thought I'd see there are WIXers crewing or as passengers? I'll be wearing a t-shirt with the vintage Douglas logo on it of course!

If it's a commorative of Kingsford-Smiths flight, shouldn't you be wearing a FOKKER shirt? Douglas would be appropriate if it's an around the world flight.

There are a whole bunch of WiXer's that hang out at the Vintage Flying Museum, where the flights are being conducted out of. Myself, Dean (KD5H), Pat Mahaffey (PMahaffey) who just might be your pilot, Franklin "Hawkeye" Pool (see the B-26K thread). Which night are you flying? If it's on the weekend, I will probably be out at the hangar working on the Invader Sq's A-26 elevators. I'll be the guy probably wearing an OD pair of coveralls, VFM ball cap and glasses, running around like a chicken with his head cut off!

Be sure to drop a few bucks in the yellow donation boxes. The money from the C-47 flights goes to Greatest Generation Aircraft (GGA), not to Vintage Flying Museum. Also be sure to call the GGA number to confirm your flight time before heading to the airport. Don't call the VFM, we don't have the flight information.

Always glad to meet another Wixer, if we run into eachother and I can find a few minutes, I'll give you the nickel tour that normally goes for $8.00 (did I mention the donation box?)

Just a brief update to say that the folks at Greatest Generatation really did a good job, and we really enjoyed our flight. The weather was cold and clear, perfect for flying. I didn't have a chance to run into any WIXers, but I'll be back out to the VFM again and hopefully we can cross paths.

I did notice there were two C-47s undergoing restoration in the hangar. Anyone here know who those belong to?

Finally, I thought the "vibe" of the museum now, almost like a mutual clubhouse for different outfits, was really good. It's great to see different groups that would probably be struggling (more) on their own under one roof where information and enthusiasm (really important in volunteer organizations!) can be shared. Kudos to whomever came up with that arrangement.

I believe they are both owned by Seth Washburne (http://thirsty13th.com/) and being restored by the GGA guys.

If you search a bit here on WIX, you'll find more info on Seth's two C-47s. Interesting story and worth searching on. Both aircraft are combat veterans, one from ETO and one from PTO. And definitely check out the Thirsty 13th web site using the link that Fearless Tower posted.

And you're absolutely right about the arrangement we have at VFM with five organizations living in the same hangar. It's working quite well! (I believe Chuckie Hospers was responsible for making it all come together; she's a real dynamo!).
