Looks like they've done a completely new digital transfer of the original negs, with some major restoration work. It even includes an extra ten minutes of footage of the Japanese side, which was cut from the U.S. release.

Normally I don't bother replacing DVDs with Blue Rays, since an up-converted DVD looks fine on my 32" TV, but this is a special case. I'm especially intrigued by the restored footage. I've read that the version of the film screened at the premiere was something like a half-hour longer than the theatrical wide release, and of course it was trimmed here and there for TV screenings over the years.
Of course, I can't help but think of the scene in "Men In Black" when Tommy Lee Jones is showing Wil Smith around the lab where they develop alien technology. He shows Smith a little disc and says "See this? It's gonna replace CDs soon. That means I'll have to buy the White Album...again."
