A brave bunch of men. I've been wanting to watch Band of Brothers for the last few weeks, maybe I'll start tonight. I had the chance to meet Wild Bill Guarnere at the Military Avaition Museum back in May. Wonderful guy and you still tell he is tough as nails.

Zack and I met Gaurnere, Heffron, Compton, and a few others. When I asked them about the Bulge they all got a serious look on their face and said man it was cold!

For those of us who enjoy reading about the Bulge and its impact during WW2, I suggest reading the book, "Once Upon a Time in War: The 99th Division in World War II" by Robert Humphrey. Mr Humphrey does a fine job taking the reader from the inception of the 99th Division through the end of the war including the time the division spent slugging it out with the Germans in the bulge. It was a huge honor to meet them. They were shocked that folks were so excited to see them. We met Gaurnere, Heffron, Compton, Malarkey, and a few others. I also had the honor of writting several letters back and fourth with Dick Winters while I was researching D-day C-47 operations. I feel the gentleman that portrayed him in the series did a great job. He closed his final letter to me with a photo of him during the war. He signed it, "Hang tough, Dick Winters. He also finished the letter with a touching ending. He wrote, "I hope you have a long, happy, and healthy life" I have that photo and letter framed.

Superb, thanks for that Chris. I reckon Bill Guarnere looks like a real character even now.

It's interesting how the TV series turned these guys into later-life celebrities, yet there are so many allied WWII veterans all around the world who did the same things they did, and still go largely unrecognised in their communities. Every one of them has a story to tell. I love listening to them all and learning from them, and I salute them all for what they did.
