From the Mountain View Voice,
Options Dwindle for Hangar One,
http://www.mv-voice.com/morgue/2005/200 ... ngar.shtml
I was at the big "Meeting" a couple of months ago, with the RAB, Restoration Advisory Board and the Navy Rep. The thing I remember most is, that the Navy Rep always said "We cannot take demolishion off of the table." Which in my mind means, "If you don't have anything, we're dozing that mother in february."
The RAB, and concerned citizens had a nice meeting with the rep, where everyone was encouraged to "Think outside the box", and other touchy feely California kinda garbage. I got a sinking feeling there, that these folks were gonna talk their way out of a hangar.
However it happened, it looks like it happened.
G-O-D-D-A-M-M-I-T!, can anyone in california pull their head outta their @ss for five minutes and make a decision, about anything? Ever?
The Navy told them what they were going to do, and when they were going to do it. I guess the RAB cats didn't let it sink in enough.
Had to take a break, time and a couple of beers cools the anger, and the language. Anger and complaining is getting me nowhere. Sooooo, I gotta plan. This is the only plan, besides nothing.
1. Tell the Navy to remove the siding. Demo the inside. Clean up the site. Clean the structural members. Paint them EB green.
2. Start a non-profit.
3. Get the plans for the hanger sheathing, and the hangar in general.
4. Get a brainiac, or a company, to figure out an efficent way to reside this mother, with the cost per piece of siding.
The idea is, you put whatever you want on your piece of siding. Memorials, Advertising, whatever, I don't care. Ford motor company has a bunch of pieces, the Longview Rotary club has their piece. Get Dupont, or Hanks Siding shack, to make em at or near cost, the donor/s pays for shipping and installation and the difference.
Thats it. No "Solar Panels", no goofy sh1t. Just get it repaneled.
I'm willing to actually do something. sooooo,
1. I'll start the non-profit. I don't have a clue, but if my tree huggin buddies can do it, I can do it. (Lame request for lawyer dude/ette guidance.)
2. I'll go get the P.O. box.
3. I'll start the bank account.
4. I'll go talk to the Navy Rep and the RAB. I'll have to figure that one out. Shouldn't take long to figure out where I/we stand and who to talk to.
I don't know what it'll take, but I know I'll be p1ssed if it went away and I said or did nothing.
The Charter for this non-profit is.
1. Resheath Moffett Hangar One.
2. Leave a mechanism in place for Hangar One to exist.
I call dibs on the panel on the the top north side of the hangar. I don't know how large its gotta be yet, but I know it'd be cool to see " I 'heart' you Orvis" every time I'm in the pattern for PAO.
