The Evening News from the BBMF at RAF Coningsby ......

Sat Feb 04, 2012 2:56 pm

OK so the visit was on Wednesday ~ but I didn't have time to do anything with the pix until today .......

The Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight Visitor Center is housed on RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire.
Visitors can view the winter maintenance of the aircraft fleet from the designated walk-way during one of the frequent guided tours.

Image

Let's start with a snap of the sectioned Rolls Royce Griffon engine .....

Next is Hurricane ~ LF363

Image

Image

Photography is challenging because of the light coming into the hanger directly opposite

Image

Exhaust stubs await refitting .....

Image

And the spinner

Image

Spitfire ~ MK356 ~ UF - Q ~ is painted in the marks of No.601 Squadron in 1944

Image

Spitfire PR.XIX ~ PS915

Image

Spitfire PR.XIX ~ PM631

Image

We best not forget to include Lancaster ~ PA474

Image

And finally .......

Spitfire TE311 ~ 4D - V ....... which should fly again in 2012 after long term restoration ~ started in 2001.

Image

Lurking in the background ~ Spitfire ~ LA255 was held with No.1 Squadron and is believed to be currently stored

Image

Last but not least ~ Spitfire ~ AB910 nearest the camera. It's about to be repainted into the colors it actually wore when serving
with No.133 ( Eagle) Squadron in 1942

Further details can be found on this page on the BBMF web site ~ http://www.raf.mod.uk/bbmf/theaircraft/ ... eab910.cfm

Thank goodness we had to stay with the guide on the walkway ~ I'd have taken hundreds more pix given an opportunity !

Fanx for the fotos Pedro!

If it is allowed you might bless the Hurricane fanpage on FB with that first shot of the Hurricane fileted and on jack-stands. You know- if only Hurricanes cost 'alf as much as Spitfires I would have to buy two of 'em I love 'em so much.

Great shots and thanks for perking up a rainy day in Juiceton, Tx.
I couldn't move Moosejaw back to Hooks (from Winter maintenance) today because of the waxy build-up. It is like Seattle down here- only warmer.

SPANNER the much obliged

Thanks for sharing those awesome photos. Wish the USAF did something like this to honor the warrior spirit.

Great, great photos. Nice to see that Spitfire will be repainted in its original Eagle Squadron colors.

Great stuff. This, I think, will be the second time AB910 has worn her original Eagle Squadron colours.
