What Plane is This Ammo Box For?

Fri Feb 10, 2012 8:29 pm

Can anyone ID this ammo box? I know that its an aircraft type obviously but, for what? My gut is saying B17/B24 but, I haven't been able to find any decent pictures to confirm it. I'm hoping B-24 so I can use it as part of a museum display...

It is a little hard for me to seethe scale of them but they look very similar to the Bakelite boxes found in the a B-25 such as found in the nose, etc of the G,H and J models. I think a similar box may also be in tunnel of a Harpoon but not sure on that.

The dimensions are 6 wide, 16 long, 11 tall.

As Ryan mentioned, the first thing that struck me is that it looks like one of the boxes as would be seen in the nose of a B-25. Not a perfect match, but quite close to this one, as seen in the nose of the FHC B-25 (there's three of these mounted in a row in the nose).

Looks like what I have except mine has an aluminum lid instead of fiber. Not a bad $20 investment. now to save up for the rest of the B-25 :drink3:
