My dad randomly told me about this made for TV movie. Five minutes later I found it on YouTube. Looks like they renamed it State of Division since the more popular Death Race came out round the same time.

Seems also like an appropriate time what with the P-40 being found in Egypt.

Chris,
I have a VHS copy of "State of Division" (aka "Death Race") that I found on EBAY from Canada a few years ago. Tallichet's TP-40 in it is now with Weeks and looking fantastic!

IIRC the TP-40 was from Frank Tallman or Talmanz.

It was the "ABC Movie for a Thursday Evening." And if you missed it, you were out of luck. It repeated once during summer re-runs. And, of course, this was before VCRs. The post says 1973, which seems about right to me. Glad to see it finally show up on YouTube. Thanks for the link.

I'm surprised this movie hasn't come up here before! Great to see so many getting a kick out of this TV Movie. Never thought I would see Lyod Bridges at a German Tank commander with poor German speaking infantrymen with California accents. pop1  :supz:

Too cool! I don't have time to watch it right now...but I've got the next couple nights off. I remember seeing this one as a kid..probably my first memory of a P-40.

I saw this movie on TV in the 1970s. At the time I thought the P-40 would have boiled over before they went much of anywhere. I did find the interaction aboard the German tank interesting, as the crew come to realize they are commanded by a madman.
There was another made for TV movie with this P-40 around the same time, with David Janssen as a helicopter news guy that witnesses a bank robbery, inter-cut with old B&W scenes from "Flying Tigers".

Here's what Scott Thompson's http://www.aerovintage.com website says:

Death Race" TV Movie Sep-73 Pilots:Tallman, F. Pine, Mooney, Johnson Aircraft: P-40s, B-25

If you ever think something may have been done by Mantz ior Tallman, check there first.
BTW: any P-40 stuff on fiilm in the 70s is most likely Tallman. He did several TV projects with it.

That would have been the excellent "Birds of Prey" from 1972.
Jannssen as a traffic reporter for a Salt Lake station and bad guys get away in a Lama. They fly under freeway overpasses. Big climax at Wendoever AAF.

John Paul's P-40 was also used in Death Race. Frank got it all sandy and knocked some paint off and he was upset!
