Warbird Worldwide contact 'Lynn' Texas

Hi All,

I've a note from my old Warbirds Worldwide files from a 'Lynn' in Texas, and I'd like to hear from him, but I've no other details! It's a 1995 letter regarding the CAF ambulance Storch. pretty vague, but maybe we can catch the right Lynn via WIX.

Lynn is on here..........he was part of our group that had custody of the mentioned Storch back then. What do you need to know about the Fi-156?

James - I think I was the last to fly the CAF Storch back in 1998 before it began its lengthy repairs and changes in location. It is currently back at CAF HQ here in Midland. Let me know if I can be of any help.

They turned it back in. The engine is toast. They ran it, never warming it up or cooling it down in spite of me telling them how to treat it. You were around it to long to know that the engine had to be treated with kid gloves. They have videos of it on their web site. First start ....run less than two minutes shut it down. Another one start and immediatley taxi and shut down less than 3 minutes. I know where you can get a "new" engine for 80k, and be in business. The plane will be sold before too long.

I wonder if we could get someone here in San Antonio to get that new engine and get it up and running. That plane's on my "bucket list" to fly.

Hi Lynn - yes, as I understand the matter, the unit felt the Storch was at risk being flown and turned it back into HQ, where the plans I have heard were to keep it as a static display, unless someone comes up with the funding for a new engine and some other maintenance. The Storch was reassembled and is normally on display in the main CAF hangar. I have heard no discussion of its sale. That's not official, just my understanding from a bit ago.

Heh... One of my favourite quotes on the Storch is that miles per gallon, it's more expensive than a Spitfire...
