Any ideas on the history of my A-26C 44-35898? Seems that aircraft only a couple of serial numbers away served in Korea with 13th Bomb Sqn..

Referencing serial number to serial number for an indication of what served where won't tell you much if anything. By even the time of Korea, the best condition A-26s were be picked over to go to France and to be returned to service with the USAF. Their condition was essentially random. Hence it is not like two or three came of the production line and went into service at the same time and location since they were delivery as part of a batch.

I am not answering you directly here. I hope this helps.

Mike

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

OscarDuck, you will have a really good picture when you hear back from the Air Force Historical Center ( Archie DiFante ). Most of the A-26s were stored at McClellan after WWII. The A-26s there were reworked and sent to Korea as replacement aircraft. All heavy maint and 50 hr inspections were pulled at Miho in Japan. You can track combat time by the number of times it went to Miho. Missions ran about 3-4 hours. It is possible that if your aircraft was sent to Korea it flew with a hard gun nose. Did your aircraft have internal wing guns ? Look just inboard of the wingtips do you see 2 elliptical skin patches? They would be for the air to ground homing radio, should be four total. In the same general area on top of the wing you would should see a rectangular panel held on with screws. These were all Korean mods. There were more, but these should be easy to see.

Thanks guys. I've just obtained the Osprey book on Korean Invaders and it shows a nice color shot of a 13th BS black Invader that isonly a couple of serial numbers from mine. Of course that doesn't mean anything but it could give a clue.
