A small event held on the former airfield at Haverigg Nr Millom. As well as the flying displays there was a simulated battle between Americans and Germans involving Tanks (genuine Sherman and Tiger) as well as several origional vehicles.

Having had a quick look i dont seem to of taken many, but here's what there is. As for the battle there were so many pyro's going off and facing into the sun i didn't use the camera for it.

GREAT shots. The one of the two tanks parked next to each other gives one a good idea of what US tankers had to fear.

Great shots of the planes and tanks! I didn't think there were any operational tigers left. Isn't that Hunter incredible - a few $$ in the paint I'd say - "Miss chevious" I think?

Thanks!

Watching them on the day, the Sherman did seem a bit feeble compared to the Tiger which looked far more business like. I'll admit i know nothing about tanks but the Tiger certainly looked fearsome :)

Tiger is a replica based on another vehicle. The only running genuine Tiger in the UK is owned by the Bovington Tank Museum, and is a LOT more fearsome that this one. Unfortunately they broke something the first time than ran it..it is also in plain desert camo ( it was captured in Nth.Africa).

Some really great shots!

Looking at the running gear, the Tiger is almost assuredly a conversion of a T-55 (drive spocket at the rear as opposed to the front on a genuine Tiger).

Maybe this Tiger was left out in the rain and shrank! The side-by-side image near the Sherman really magnifies the (relatively) diminutive size of the donor chassis. By WW2 standards, the Tiger was a rather large vehicle -- notably larger than a Sherman.

Whoever did the conversion did a great job with it, though!
