It has to be the Corsair. That general area is where the sponsor group was planning on taking it, according to CAF HQ. I'm just glad they aren't flying it off the short air park strip they were talking about operating it from.

If you look at the Dixie wing facebook page there are some pretty good comments about this particular airplane. To put it mildly, she's had a rough life! She's gone thru multiple belly landings in her career. I would think that if that airplane ever gets taken apart for a proper restoration again, people would be horrified at what they saw.

I was told a couple of months ago that the CAF P-47 might be going to Georgia for the restoration. I don't know if the current sponsor group lost interest or what happened. Maybe that deal was put on hold with the arrival of the Corsair. Either way, the P-47 was still sitting on the floor in Dallas the last time I saw it.

I'm pretty sure Doug Jeans and the Cavanaugh Flight Museum haven't lost any interest in the P-47. However, they have a lot on their plates right now and they've had to move the plane a couple of times due to various reasons that have slowed its progress.

As for the CAF Corsair, I really wish people would not make comments, especially on facebook, about something they only have a little information on. While the CAF Corsair has had 2 belly landings, both times it (and the engine) were fully inspected and repaired and prop replaced, at least one of those times, the repairs were done by Nelson Ezell and he doesn't just fix the obvious stuff.

Also, I see no information that the CAF Corsair is going to become part of the Dixie Wing. They just say it will be based there. It's been the custody of the CAF Corsair Sponsor Group for many years, so while it'll be sad to see it leave Lancaster (officially) with its pilots being all over the place, Lancaster was only its winter home, it was usually gone most of the flying season.

I don't see the Dixie wing taking on a P-47, they don't have the room and the restoration shop has all it can handle trying to get the P-63 finished...And the P-63 still has no sponsors so far as I know.
My impression has been that they are doing all they can just to keep the P-51, SBD, and others flying.

Its safe to say I know far more about that particular Corsair than you do. Much of the damage is still visible if you know where to look. And it was belly landed more than twice. To say it has been rode hard would be an understatement.

P-47.....has 8 .50's, 4 in each wing.....so my guess goes for a Corsair also.

First a P-63 update: We hope to have the aircraft on it gear in one month. The holdup has been the fuel tanks or should I say waiting on them. There are currently 4 flying sponsor that have signed up and the engine is getting ready to head to CA for overhaul as well as the drive train. We have almost finished remaking all the magnesium parts in the aircraft. Since the rudder bar assembly was MIA, used in another flying 63, we hand made a new one. I try to post the current pics and details on Facebook, so friend us.
The Dixie Wing’s general meeting will start at 3:30pm, where I will be announcing our newest aircraft. I will also post the info on FB.

Enemy ace:
Come down and see us, I think you will find out we are doing ok.

It is the Corsair that is going to the Dixie wing.

Mudge: Just click this link. All you have to do is look.

http://www.facebook.com/CAFDixieWing

You don't have to log in, you don't have to join anything, you don't have to give at the office, nobody will call and nobody will visit you at home. All you have to do is look at what they have posted

Some of you people really need to get over the whole "scared of facebook" thing. Its not a bit different than looking at this message board. You can get as involved as you want, or just look.
