I am trying to research our F-100 C as it is said to have been flown by Neil Armstrong. I am just trying to find out what markings it would have caried during this time.

Are you sure it wasn't flown by Neil Young?

Since Armstrong was a Navy guy, it might have been while he was flying @ Edwards in the X-15 program. The markings would most likely have been straightup USAF stuff since I've never seen a picture of a 'hun' in NASA paint (FSI did paint a few F-100 drones white with medum blue striping), might drop a line to NASA @ Edwards and inquire.

There is a picture of 53-1709 on Dryden's site. http://www.dfrc.nasa.gov/gallery/photo/F-100/HTML/EC62-144.html

A "C" with a "D" tail.

If the timline is correct for 1712, it probably carried markings similar to this F-100A: http://www.dfrc.nasa.gov/Gallery/Photo/ ... E-3213.jpg
