The storm is now battering parts of the gulf coast. I hope everyone from the Florida Panhandle to western Louisianna has taken the necessary steps to be safe.

Yep, first place I'd put an airworthy aircraft is on the edge of Mobile Bay, in a building 10 feet above normal bay level. A building that has already had a storm surge blow through it and stack the aircraft inside on top of each other !

Yeah, too bad

1) it was not flyable when it went to the museum

2) The owner broke multiple laws including lying to border agents.

Chris, backoff, I said nothing about the confiscation of the aircraft, right or wrong. No need to rehash those circumstances. I was referring to the decision by NMNA to put the aircraft in constant poential danger by sending it to a facility that already suffered multiple hits, Ivan, Katrina, etc....

And the aircraft was flyable, all it required was a current inspection.

Wow, I had no intention of starting a dispute here. I am just hoping everyone manages to get out of harms way.

No problem, Pat. I was lamenting the reasoning to place that particular aircraft in harms way when there were other possibilities that weren't sitting at the edge of a bay that is very susceptible to storm surge.

The confiscation issue is irrelevant, the decision has been made.

OK, JimH, Do we really have to do this again? Where are we going to put them?
Remember the Noreaster at NEAM? What about tornadoes in the central states
area. Oh wait, lets put them on the west coast with fires, floods, landslides, etc.,

Put down the coolaid, dude. My 26 airplanes are just as safe as NNAM's
150+ on the Gulf Coast and all the artifacts at the Natl WWII Museum in NOLA.
WHY aren't you whining about them? Where does Collings do their winter
maint? Tampa area? They have occasional storms late in the fall. What if you
get caught doing an engine change? You're in the same shape as NNAM's
PB4Y. Take a chill pill. I LOVE my new SPAD!''

Later,
Owen

Best of wishes to all those in Isaacs path. Regarding the planes, bring em all to Arizona. No quakes, tornados, floods, hurricanes. Monsoons are relatively mild compared to other stuff and definitely no storm surge. I has been known to get a little warm in August though.

Tondelayo is in Boston and it didn't get there on a flatbed. We have air evac'ed our airplanes several times for weather.

I lived in New Orleans when Katrina hit seven years ago. I moved away and swore I'd never go back!
