WWII Scott tail wheels

Mon Sep 10, 2012 8:11 pm

Guys,

I wanted to show you the tail wheels that came on the O-58A and the L-3C. The Gold unit came on the O-58A built November of 1942 (three weeks before Pearl Harbor). The Plain Jane tail wheel came on the L-3C built September 1942. Both have data plates that say built by Scott for Aeronca. The steering arms on both units is a factory baked on dark brown finish. Both units have aluminum Scott wheels.

Steve

I forgot to add that the bright aluminum wheel on the prewar O-58 (built three weeks before Pearl Harbor) was unpainted while the wheel on the L-3C is painted an OD green. Do you think we were ready for War before Pearl Harbor and the Japanese attack, we learned fast.
