That thing is going to be so awesome when they get it in the air!

You can e-mail them directly. They were very good about returning my e-mail query quickly (it was regarding Capital Airlines, some MIA parts from one of their crashed DC3s, and a question about MAAM's Viscount), and I got a response from someone no less than the President of MAAM himself.

It's a fairly new age problem. A group has a plane they want to restore. They want to keep the public in on the restoration as much as possible. So they create a website for people to track the progress. It starts off pretty good for an undetermined amount of time, then slacks off. Now there are many reasons updates may become less frequent. Some groups are thorough and finish a project online from start to finish. But I see the majority trail off and only get updated when the project is actually finished. That doesn't mean the group has closed up shop (usually). It just means they've either become so busy, or our working on something so minute and uninteresting that they don't see the reason to post about it. (Speaking of, where the heck are the Dottie Mae updates?!?!)

We at the CASC can be guilty of this trend as well. We rarely update the actual sites nowadays and really keep updating content on the Facebook pages since its far easier to connect with your actual fan-base. Is this bad? Not really, as long as you keep the public informed in some way about what your doing, and how your doing it.

One type of aircraft restoration website that seems to do a better job at keeping consistent posts up, are actual FBO restoration sites. (Ezell, American Aero, etc.) Other sites you don't see any updates at all! (West Pac).

But from some perspectives, doing it the Facebook way is bad. Believe it or not, not everyone is on Facebook, nor wants to be on there. I haven't quite figured out why some businesses or museums have a website but forsake it in favor of Facebook; some of the FB pages I've seen are public access, but others are not, so no looky loo for me.

I wouldn't touch Facebook with your you-know-what.

All the facebook haters say the same thing- they cant figure out why people dont realize everyone isnt on facebook. well maybe we cant figure out why YOU arent on facebook like the rest of the world. Even if it's just to keep track of things like restorations. You expect everyone to cater to your unwillingness to adapt to technology and modern society. Did you ask Sony to keep making black n white tv's when color came out? Catch up with the rest of the world! It's not our fault you're too stubborn to even give things a chance. Plus, for the millionth time, you dont have to be a member of facebook to look at these pages! It's not the rest of the worlds responsibility to stay in the stone age with you knuckleheads, it's your responsiblilty to keep up. The train is moving, get on or get left behind

PLUS, facebook is so much easier to update and keep current than a website. It takes a matter of seconds to update on facebook instead of an hour to update a webpage. Plus it is much cheaper because you dont need to pay to network space. And, it doesn't require specific web-related knowledge to do so which means they can focus more time, money, and effort on the actual restorations

Gee, thanks for the insult. Just because Facebook is popular doesn't mean we all have to adopt and like it. Joining FB is not a "responsibility", it's merely a social networking website, which I choose not to do. I understand that not all FB pages require you to join and sign in, but then again, some do. You calling us non-FB types stubborn, knuckleheads and in the stone age is just arrogant and wrong... it makes you look like a jackass. But thanks for the concern.

Good question Sasnak! Incase you couldn't tell by the pictures this is one of my favorite restorations. It is rare and fairly local. I don't have any new news other than what you can see in the pics from WWII weekend this past June. I usually try to get to the MAAM twice a year. I'm hoping to get there in November and I'll grab some updated pictures.

When I received this years news letter I think mine was missing the page with the P-61 updates

There was not much visible progress in the pictures because much of the internal wiring was done over the past year according to one of the newsletters.

I don't think there's a person out there that can't wait for this bird to return to the skies. Keep in mind, this is a museum restoration. Progress is a function of the funds available (museum dues and donations) and labor available (usually volunteer, but some sub-assemblies are "farmed" out) to get the job done. With the resources they have available, MAAM has done a yeoman's job to bring her this far.

If you truly want to see her back in the air, dig in your pockets and make a contribution for her restoration. Or, if you live within close proximity, push up your sleeves and volunteer. Even if you've never worked on an airplane before, I am sure they will put you to work doing something productive.

It is the kind, thoughtful, and respectful posts like this that have people leaving WIX never to return. I thought this thread was about MAAM's P-61? Not about what you do or what others don't do!

I talked with one of the MAAM guys about this today. Basically he said they've been doing electrical work for about the last year and by the way it sounds the wiring is pretty much complete. The outer wing panels are the only other really big step. With the right amount of money he figured it could be flying in 2-3 years.
