I've always had a soft spot for these big old birds. She looks in great shape and deserves a good home.

Oh, just some clown-4317228 C-54D-15-DO to MASDC 8/3/65 then N 9015Q (reg not valid per FAA registration site).
Found it in Baugher, ABCDList is a nightmare as far as DOUGLAS war time s/ns, so no idea as to l/n

The FAA site just says that a sale has been reported, not that it's invalid.

The aircraft was owned by Florida Air Transport last. It's sad to see her get sold because her last job was not long ago flying material into the Bahamas on a pretty major contract that Carlos and his crew was hoping would be long term, but it appears that it's dried up like so many things in recent history. :(

BTW, they just got the plane too. They bought it in Arizona last year and flew it to Boca last winter.

I made that mistake once & only once, when referring to our B-23 Dragon, I called it a McDonald Douglas, & one of the CAF old timers looked at me & said "THAT'S A DOUGLAS AIRPLANE SON"! Never did that again.

Ah, one of the old ARDCO birds! These aircraft were pretty well taken care of during their air tanker days. #152 has an interesting story behind her, the tail on the airplane had been replaced just a year or two prior to the Forest Service cancelling all the air tanker contracts. There was a Gov employee driving a forklift helping the crew of load something out of the aircraft and took a wrong turn and ran into the horizontal stab, it was hit hard enough to tweak the tail. I can't remember what tanker base they were at, but it was about half way into the fire season and the aircraft was out of service for the rest of the year. I was told the Forest Service had to pay for the rest of the contract and loss availbilty to ADRCO and the repair of the aircraft. I know they went and cut a tail off of a DC-4 up in Chandler,AZ and replaced the one on #152 and gave a good overhaul and new paint, I think ARDCO got one season on on the aircraft before getting out of the tanker biz for good after the big Forest Service debacle. I hope she goes to a good home, I would love to have a DC-4 for a flying toy.

Scott....

And at 200GPH at cruise, 400GPH at Climb. You'd better have some deeeeep pockets if you're planning to use it as a Winnebago.
