Heard from a friend who knows Joe personally and his Electra that had an unfortunate incident last spring was patched and flown to Red Deer for further repairs. Has anyone heard any further news on this Electra?

I saw it the other day. It's in Red Deer now and was ferried out of Yellowknife earlier this summer. It could have been a lot worse but the crew did a fantastic job. I expect you'll see it back on the line by spring.

He actually has 4. 2 L.188AF, 2 L.188PF. Difference between the two types? Nothing really. The conversions were just carried out under different STC's, although the "PF" conversions can still carry passengers in a combi layout (although I've never heard of it being done in any recent times, not even by Reeve).

They've been running new episodes weekly on The Weather Channel. Monday nights. They're still a season behind current run (they just ran the episode where Artie came back to Yellowknife in summer 2011 after he completed his chemo treatments), but it seems they might be moving to "catch up" as ratings have been good.

My understanding from the initial reporting is that a film crew was not onboard the incident aircraft. They actually only film like 1/3 of the operations at Buffalo following mainly the few "key" characters. I think there's only 2 actual film "crews" anyway, so you can imagine how hard it is for them to decide what charters they film. :)

Thanks for the info! I'm going to have to start recording the series again. I always wondered if Buffalo Joe was a multi-millionaire or both of his son's have good money. From what i've only seen on tv it seems they have normal lives. But the operation that they run and the costs!

Looks like they found another elite group of pilots to fill that slot. pop2 http://www.tvrage.com/shows/id-32854

Funny, the Weather Channel doesn't list them as a show.

Even at that, there is more than 1 slot in the evening. They've been running 3 straight hours of Ice Pilots on Monday, that means there's 5 slots for a new show without replacing Ice Pilots. I know there's a new Ice Pilots episode on Monday because my DVR is recording it.

I can't wait for Season 3 to come out on DVD. I already own Seasons 1 and 2. For unknown reasons, Buffalo won't sell DVD sets to US buyers (they told me on the telephone when I tried to place and order that they're not allowed???) but they did sell me a shirt with no problem. I had to get my DVD sets from a fellow WIXer (Season 1) and Spitfire Emporium (Season 2), both located in Canada.

The US is a different "region" when it comes to DVD's so you have to have a separate license to sell in that region (don't we just love the media?). Add to that their contract with The History Channel here in the US for Season 1, it means they can't sell Season 1 in the US even with a license for like 5 years because THC has the rights for that (unless they gave them up when they chose not to pick up Season 2). I don't know what their contract with The Weather Channel is, but I would suspect it's similar.

Nothing is ever straightforward with media. I don't dabble much in it, but the guys I know who do have told me all sorts of stories of how convoluted it can get.

I've been watching them the last few weeks while recovering from surgery, but am still probably a season behind. What happened to this Electra? R main collapse or maybe a non function?

Right main would not extend. They flew around for quite a while trying to shake it loose, and to burn off fuel, but in the end they had to land on two legs. No injuries to aircrew or persons on the ground, and the airplane is repairable.

The Season 4 trailer was released today on their FB page, although I'm guessing only us Canucks can view it... 8) http://www.facebook.com/icepilotsnwt

Although it was stated a film crew was not on board the Electra for the mishap, it looks as though they still got it on tape. (screen shot from trailer)
