Not a lot happens around Harris County Georgia, but every once in a while people catch on.

Special thanks to Jim Hall of the Pine Mountain Trail Association for bringing all this to light and making this happen.

Tragic is that this mishap was a combination of weather, pilot error, and approximately 50 feet short of altitude needed to clear the mountain. Small fragments are all that is left of the 44-86779 that had been accepted by the United States Army Air Force on 3 July 1945 and assigned to the 1403rd Maintenance Squadron, based out of Andrews AFB, Maryland, Military Air Transport Service (MATS). Total time in flight hours on the airframe as of 29 September 1953 was 2,961 hours and 39 minutes.
